United by Taste

Welcome to UnitedByTaste

Most recipe blogs are written for search engines. This one was built for the kitchen.

UnitedByTaste is the result of a personal challenge: to cook at least one dish from every country in the world. I realized that the traditional way of finding, organizing, and shopping for global recipes was too slow. So, I built a system to fix it.

How This Project Works

1. Research, Accelerated

Finding authentic recipes from 195+ countries is a massive task. I use AI to assist with the initial research and drafting, providing a foundation of ingredients and techniques. However, nothing is automated without a human touch. I manually verify every source, adjust the proportions, and refine the instructions to ensure they are accurate before they ever hit the site.

2. Smart Shopping

Cooking a new global dish every week requires precision. This blog allows me to select multiple recipes and automatically generate a categorized shopping list. If three recipes call for garlic, the list combines them into a single total. Additionally, ingredients scale automatically based on the portions I need.

3. The "Rare Ingredient" Database

Have you ever seen a rare, beautiful ingredient in an international market but had no idea what to do with it? Because I maintain a growing database of global recipes, I can check on the fly if that find is needed for a future dish. If it is, I can buy it immediately, add the recipe to my week, and the system adjusts my shopping list instantly.

4. Zero-Fluff Instructions

I have intentionally sacrificed SEO for readability. The ingredients and instructions are front and center. You won't find long stories here; instructions are kept as short as possible while remaining clear.

5. Backend Management

Behind the scenes, I've built a dashboard to track my progress. I can see at a glance which dishes are in research, which are ready to be cooked, and which have been shared on social media. It keeps me accountable and keeps the journey moving forward.

About Me

I'm a software developer by trade and a father of two. My passion for documenting food goes way back, I was "journaling" my meals on Flickr back when that was the place to be.

I've tried to "cook the world" before, but I'm a perfectionist; if I stopped for a few months, I felt the need to restart from scratch. If I count my previous successful attempts, I've tackled about 50 to 60 countries as of April 2026. This time, with the right tools and a clear workflow, I'm going the distance.

Aside from cooking and family time, I love coding and exploring new tech. I try to incorporate AI into my life wherever it adds value without impacting system security. However, I also deeply enjoy the things AI can't do, especially physical challenges like Hyrox, trail runs, and triathlons.

I hope you'll join me for the journey.
